Summer Convention deadline June 4

The deadline to register for the 129th Summer Convention and to reserve rooms at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel is right around the corner — June 4.

The convention is June 19-21 in Arlington.

TPA encourages newspapers and associate members planning to attend the convention to reserve now.

The room block already is filling up and rooms may not be available at the $108 rate if members wait until the deadline day. Members can book hotel reservations online at www.texaspress.com/ SummerConvention/.

This year’s convention theme is “Boot Up Your Online Power.” The TPA convention committee has put together a packed program complete with off-site events and optional activities and entertainment.

Martha Jean McHaney, labor and human resources attorney for Morris Communications, is the newest addition to the program as the Friday, June 20 luncheon speaker. She will discuss hiring and firing dos and don’ts.

Six Flags Over Texas is the site for the Friday, June 20, party and every full registration receives park admission, dinner, entertainment and parking. The after-dinner entertainment in the park is Cirque Dreams Coobrila.

Only a handful of tickets for the Texas Rangers versus Atlanta Braves Wednesday, June 18, game remain. Tickets are available for only $21! June 18 also is $1 hotdog night.

The Utmost Driving Experience is another optional activity Friday, June 20, at Texas Motor Speedway with race cars that go up to 150 miles per hour. Don’t forget the deadline for hotel and registration is June 4.
