Convention hotel deadline May 19TPA event heads to San Antonio June 21-23Hurry! The deadline to reserve rooms for the 128th Summer Convention is May 19. The event is June 21-23 at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk in San Antonio. Rooms are $119 single/double, $123 triple, $139 quad. Call 877-227-6963 or 210-354-2800 for reservations. The convention registration deadline is June 8. Full registration is only $125 for the first attendee and $100 for each additional attendee. The Texas Newspaper Foundation golf tournament is Thursday, June 21, at The Quarry sponsored by Embarq, and the dinner fundraiser is Saturday, June 23 at the hotel featuring country singer Sarah Johns and sponsored by American Profile, Jackson Walker & AEP SWEPCO. The Golden 50 Award nominees will be honored at the Friday, June 22 luncheon, and the Better Newspaper Contest award winners will be announced at the Saturday, June 23 brunch. Speakers include author and historian T.R. Fehrenbach at the Friday, June 22 luncheon and computer guru Russell Viers Saturday, June 23. Just added to the program is breakfast speaker Robert “Bob” Rivard, editor of the San Antonio Express-News since 1997. Rivard’s topic is “The Newspaper Business: It’s Going to Be Okay.” He also will discuss and sign copies of his new book “Trail of Feathers: Searching for Philip True,” his first book, a nonfiction true crime thriller about the disappearance and murder of the Express-News Mexico City bureau chief. Also just added to the schedule is the commemorative 9/11 exhibit presented by the Associated Press. The exhibit includes photographs taken the day of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and a multimedia presentation. The display will be available near the TPA registration desk throughout the convention to give attendees ample opportunities to view it. |
