AG to SFA: Release docs on alumni official’s resignationAUSTIN — The Texas Attorney General said Stephen F. Austin University must comply with an open records request for documents relating to the resignation of Jim Jeter, former SFA associate vice president of alumni affairs, The Daily Sentinel in Nacogdoches reported. A letter dated Jan. 18 states that SFA must provide the records requested by The Daily Sentinel in October, a copy of a memo and a severance agreement. The Daily Sentinel made the request after a former SFA Alumni Association board member, Chris Martin, wrote in a public statement that Jeter’s resignation had not been voluntary, but had been forced.
Main St. ex-super sues cityFAIRFIELD — Citing violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act, former Fairfield Main Street superintendent Dawn Newman filed a lawsuit in 87th District Court seeking to overturn city council decisions to terminate her employment and end the program, the Farifield Recorder reported. Newman was terminated suddenly on Aug. 28, when she was on the council agenda for a personnel evaluation, which she requested be conducted in open session instead of behind closed doors. The lawsuit contends that the immediate call for termination indicated the council had made a decision during secret deliberations, a violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act.
