News BriefsFietsams sell Floresville weekly after 42 yearsFLORESVILLE — Marjorie Fietsam and her son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Mary Fietsam sold the Floresville Chronicle-Journal to Tom and Diana Broussart after 42 years of family ownership. Marjorie and Joe Fietsam had operated the weekly since 1963 and Marjorie became sole owner after Joe’s death in 2003. The couple previously published the New Ulm Enterprise, Fort Bend Reporter and Calvert Tribune. Tom Broussart most recently was a publisher in Idaho and before that worked for newspapers in Sedona, Ariz. and New Mexico. Associated Texas Newspapers helped with the transaction. Texas State to change into journalism schoolSAN MARCOS — The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System has approved the redesignation of the Department of Mass Communication at Texas State University-San Marcos to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The change takes effect June 1. The school will continue to be part of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Dr. Bruce Smith, who has chaired the department for the past five years, will become the school’s first director. The department achieved national professional accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2003.
