ObituariesAllen Estlack Jr.Allen Homer Estlack Jr., 68, died June 18, 2006. He worked for The Clarendon Enterprise as a distributor, inserter, subscription salesman and promoter. He also worked for West Texas Utilities Co. for 20 years before starting his own business, Estlack Electric, in 1981. His son, Roger and daughter-in-law Ashlee, currently publish the Enterprise. Lynne GregoryLynne Eva McNeil Gregory, 56, died on May 23, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris after a lengthy illness. Approximately 10 years ago, she and her husband purchased The Cooper Review where she served as co-owner and publisher. She also worked at the Review shortly after high school and at the East Texas State University library and Texas Department of Human Services as a social worker. J.R. HaneyJames Richard “J.R.” Haney, 79, died May 29, 2006, at Integris Grove General Hospital in Oklahoma. During his career from 1953 to 1984 he founded or published newspapers in seven states, including his last newspaper the Oologah Lake (Okla.) Leader. In Texas he published newspapers in Perryton and Muleshoe and received an award from Texas Press Association for advertising innovation in 1960. He served as a director of the Panhandle Press Association in the early 1960s. He also served stints in advertising sales at the Houston Chronicle. After selling the Lake Leader, Haney served 20 years as executive director of the Oklahoma Reserve Law Officers Association. He retired in 2004. Delise McGuireFuneral services for Delise Estelle Mitchell McGuire, 106, of Lubbock, were held May 30, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Anton. She served five years as society editor of the Plainview Evening Herald and in 1925 she moved to Floydada, and was the society editor of the Floyd County Hesperian. Jerry McKinneyJerry McKinney, 68, died in a rafting accident on the Animas River near Farmington, N.M., on May 26, 2006. From 1966 through 1973, he was a police reporter, feature writer, general assignment reporter and assistant Sunday editor at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. He also worked in TV and radio broadcasting in Corpus Christi and later covered politics for Voice of America. Richard Jay SteinRichard Jay Stein, 53, died June 8, 2006, from a rare aggressive form of cancer. Stein was a longtime vendor in the Texas Press Association Trade Show during the annual midwinter conferences, representing Tel-Aire Publications every year since 1991. Vince StiglichVince Stiglich, 63, was found dead May 28, 2006, in his Galveston area home. He had been writing a daily fishing column for The Galveston County Daily News for more than two decades. Stiglich also was a high-school tennis coach. |
