Wilson County News revamps into broadsheet FLORESVILLE — The Wilson County News began printing as a broadsheet with the June 20 issue. The new size also conforms to the 50-inch web. Publisher Elaine Kolodziej said it was ironic that other newspapers changing sizes these days were going smaller while the News went bigger from a tabloid to broadsheet. “I think in our case it’s going to work well for us,” Kolodziej said. The newspaper is now printing at the San Antonio Express-News and hopes to begin taking full advantage of the technology there. Plans are to expand full color on section fronts and to paginate the entire newspaper. Huntsville daily redesigns HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Item unveiled its redesign with the June 1 issue. The daily worked with a design consultant and editor David Arkin to revamp the newspaper’s look. Changes include trading out teasers for an index, doing away with boxed stories and centering headlines over stories. The design coincided with the newspaper’s switch to the 50-inch web. San Angelo daily updates newsroom computer system SAN ANGELO — The San Angelo Standard-Times in May performed the first major computer upgrade in the newsroom in seven years. The newspaper installed the DBEdit system and reporters and editors spent four weeks training on the new computers on which the newspaper spent about $100,000. Publisher buys Sudan weekly SUDAN — LeRoy Wilson, owner/publisher of the Morton Tribune, on July 1 purchased the Sudan Beacon-News from Angie Robertson who had owned it for only about nine months. Wilson will serve as publisher and editor. Winners Circle available AUSTIN — Extra copies of the Winners Circle tabloid are now available.
