Mobile Lab holds 32 member training dates in 2004

The TPA Mobile Lab wrapped up another successful year in 2004, holding 32 training days with an average of eight people per class.

During the summer TPA also upgraded the Mobile Lab, replacing existing laptops with six new Macintosh OS 10.3 Panther and three Windows XP Professional laptop computers.

The lab was busiest in April 2004 with five separate dates hosted by The Community News in Aledo, The Baytown Sun, The Dublin Citizen, The Munday Courier and Sweetwater Reporter.

In May the lab traveled to the Burleson Star and in June to The Sealy News and Pecos Enterprise. In July the lab rolled into the Bridgeport Index and Sulphur Springs News-Telegram.

In August the lab trained members at The Countywide in Karnes City and in September members of the Fredericksburg Standard Radio Post came to Austin for training at TPA. In October and November, the lab continued with dates hosted by the Forney Messenger, Kerens Tribune, Pleasanton Express, Port Aransas South Jetty, Waxahachie Daily Light and Wharton Journal-Spectator.

The Mobile Lab is a novel on-demand concept. Members contact instructor Fred Anders to set up dates in their area for hands-on training in the latest software solutions. The training is free if at least three separate member newspapers attend.
