NewsmakersChristopher Amos joined the Burleson Star as staff photographer. Amos’ background includes seven years as a photographer with The Community News in Aledo and recently as a staffer at the Weatherford Democrat. -- Sondra Elizabeth Bosse and Gerardo Gerry Hernandez were married Oct. 28 in Prairie Hill. Bosse is the features editor at The Courier in Conroe. The groom is with Liebert Global Services. -- Vanesa Brashier has been named editor of the Cleveland Advocate and a sister publication. She came from Observer Newspapers where she was managing editor. Brashier began her journalism career eight years ago at The Vindicator in Liberty, where she was news editor before working four years as features/special sections editor for the Polk County Enterprise. -- Alyson Chapman left her post as news editor at the Boerne Star to move on to the Kerrville Daily Times. -- The Colorado County Citizen has welcomed two new employees. Cyndi Wright came on board as managing editor. Wright came from the Fayette County Record where she was editor for almost seven years. She also has worked at the Bandera Bulletin, Portland News and Medina Valley Times in Lytle. Julie Wilburn filled the position of bookkeeper. Wilburn worked for the city of Beaumont in the animal control center. -- Terry Connor, publisher of the Dalton (Ga.) Daily Citizen has been named vice president / division manager of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. ’s Gulf Coast Division. Connor replaces Jim Wilson, who also was publisher of the Weatherford Democrat. Wilson has been named publisher of The Eagle in Bryan-College Station. Wilson worked as ad director at the Eagle in the 1980s. Wilson succeeds Donnis Baggett in Bryan who is taking over as editor-in-chief. -- Kimberly Duso is the new editor of the Borger News-Herald. Duso began her career in May 2004 as an intern at The News-Herald. In January 2005 she joined the Moore County News-Press. She had been working at the News-Herald as an advertising sales representative before being promoted. -- Emilee Ellis joined the Sherman Denison Herald Democrat in the fall. She had been associate editor for The Suburban Courier and The Waco Citizen. She graduated in May 2005 from Baylor University with a journalism degree. -- Roger and Ashlee Estlack of Clarendon announced the birth of their son, Benjamin Allen Homer, who arrived at 10:28 p.m. on Oct. 19, in Baptist-St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo. Benjamin weighed 8 lbs., 3.8 oz. and was 21 inches long. He made his Texas Press Association debut as a first-timer at the Midwinter Conference & Trade Show Jan. 18-20 in Houston. Roger is publisher and editor of The Clarendon Enterprise and Ashlee is the office director. -- Sarah Evans is the new reporter for the Alvin Sun. She graduated from the University of Houston with an English degree in December. -- The new year brought staff changes to The Facts in Clute with the addition of two reporters and a photographer. Terry Hagerty and Desiree Evans joined the news reporting staff. Hagerty came from Wisconsin where he last worked as a reporter for the Stoughton Courier-Hub. Evans received a masters’ in journalism from Baylor University in May. Velda Hunter was promoted to city editor. Hunter has worked for the newspaper since 1999. Laura McKenzie joined as a photographer. McKenzie worked as a stringer for the San Antonio Express-News since 2004. -- Nikki Forest joined the Diboll Free Press staff to handle bookkeeping and circulation duties. Patti Parker, who was in that position, is recovering at home due to a serious illness and hospital stay. -- The Fort Worth Star-Telegram named two new vice presidents to oversee efforts to expand online and explore enterprises. Managing editor Ellen Alfano was named vice president for innovation. She will focus on the Star-Telegram’s future, especially online, and recommend strategies and products. Craig Diebel, general manager of star-telegram.com, will become vice president and general manager of Internet operations. -- Doug Hensley, an assistant managing editor for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, is leaving after 25 years to work for a business consulting and advertising company. -- Larry Jackson is the new editor and publisher of the Fayette County Record. For the past 15 years Jackson has been editor and general manager of the Wharton Journal-Spectator and vice president of River Publishers, which owns the Journal-Spectator and East Bernard Express. Jackson was president of Texas Press Association in 1999-2000 and is the current president of the Texas Newspaper Foundation and the state chairman to the National Newspaper Association. The Barton family, who owns the Record, conducted a statewide search for a new publisher after Richard L. Barton was killed in a car accident in November. -- Debbie January was named general manager for The Waco Citizen and The Suburban Courier (formerly the Moody Courier). Gayla Holloway also joined the staff and was named advertising assistant. -- Gerard MacCrossan has been named managing editor at the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung. A native of Derr, Northern Ireland, he was assistant managing editor at the Kerrville Daily Times since 2000. -- Patrick Magallanes was named vice president of marketing for the San Antonio Express-News. Magallanes will oversee the marketing operations that support the advertising, circulation, online and news departments. -- Eloise Martin, a recent graduate of Texas State University, joined the Aransas Pass Progress as a writer. -- Bob Palmer, editor and publisher of the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune, was named Citizen of the Year by the Mount Pleasant Titus County Chamber of Commerce at the organization ’s annual banquet Jan. 18. Palmer was cited for his work as chairman of the Memorial Day Committee, which raised $40,000 for construction of the Titus County Veteran ’s Memorial, listing the names of local veterans who died during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. -- Jeffrey T. Reedy became publisher of The Jasper Newsboy Jan. 2. Reedy was director of operations of The Beaumont Enterprise, which owns The Newsboy, since 1997. Reedy was hired by The Enterprise as circulation director in 1989. Reedy replaced Willis Webb who retired. -- The Seguin Gazette-Enterprise made three staff announcements. Ron Maloney will cover law enforcement and court proceedings. Maloney spent six years at the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung. Melissa Johnson was promoted from city editor to news editor. Bill Amend stepped down from creating the daily FoxTrot comic. -- Stephen Smith left his position as Houston Chronicle Washington bureau chief to replace Vivienne Sosnowski as Washington Examiner executive editor in Washington, D.C. -- Steve Snyder is the new managing editor of the Navasota Examiner. He came from Lancaster Today where he was editor nearly seven years until the newspaper closed at year’s end. -- James Taylor, a staff writer and sports editor for the Bandera Bulletin, welcomed Richard Canon into his family on Jan. 2, weighing in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. -- Randy Wheeler has been hired as a reporter/staff writer for the Edgewood Enterprise. He had previously worked for the Enterprise and its sister paper, the Grand Saline Sun, as a graphic artist. -- Bill Woodall, publisher of the Kilgore Daily Herald and three weeklies, is back at his office on a limited basis after being severely injured in a car accident Nov. 27 near Kilgore on Texas Highway 31. Woodall still is doing physical therapy for injuries sustained to his hands, lungs and ribs. His passenger, publisher ’s assistant Jessica Matlock, as of Jan. 14, was out of ICU and also receiving physical therapy. -- Adam Yanelli was hired as editor of the Observer group of Houston Community Newspapers.
