2004 Better Newspaper Contest postmark deadline April 1

Rules and entry labels for the TPA 2004 Better Newspaper Contest have been mailed to all member newspaper editors and are now available on the TPA site at www.texaspress.com.

The contest is open to all TPA member newspapers published in Texas during 2003.

Newspapers that do not receive the rules and need a hard copy please call Pauline Word at TPAat 1-800-749-4793.

This year the photography category has been expanded into three separate categories — news photography, sports photography and feature photography.

“After looking at other national and regional competitions, we realized that Texas photographers are not adequately recognized in our state competition,” said Contest Committee Chairman Richard Stone, publisher of The Cameron Herald.

The move adds two more contest categories and 18 first place plaques and 54 certificates to the contest, which gives member newspapers even more opportunity to compete for awards.

The required contest months for the 2004 contest are January or August.

The contest period is work published during calendar year 2003.

The 2004 Better Newspaper Contest postmark deadline is Thursday, April 1.

Entrants are urged not to crowd the official deadline.
