Maria Lucy Bradford will marry  Lewis Albert Terrell Shaw March 3, 2007. Bradford is a reporter at the Pittsburg Gazette and Shaw is a TV host on CW Network.

The Breckenridge American recently added three new employees — Sandy Morris life editor, Lori Harrison sports editor and Rachael Oliver editorial assistant.

Morris has worked in radio and as a restaurant marketing director.

Harrison was a stand-out high school athlete in several sports.

Oliver will obtain an associate’s degree in business computer this month.

Erik Buck has returned after five years to head the circulation departments of the Longview News-Journal and Marshall News Messenger. He was circulation director at the The Rocky Mountain (N.C.) Telegram, also a Cox Newspaper publication.

DeLaine Carlson, a Brady native and longtime resident, has joined the Brady Standard-Herald as a full-time, multi-faceted employee handling everything from sales to writing to office help and even ad design.

Paige Eaton is the new editor of the Wood County Democrat. Eaton has more than 20 years experience in mass communications, public relations and special event planning.

Mara Fortner joined the Denver City Press to assist with advertising and photography. She previously worked as a dental assistant.

Jay Ermis is the new managing editor of The Huntsville Item. He previously served as managing editor of The Sealy News and Del Rio News-Herald and editor of the Colorado City Record.

Rich Flowers has joined the Athens Daily Review covering county government and law enforcement stories, as well as other general assignments. Flowers comes to the newspaper after  30 years in broadcasting.

Llisha Freeze was hired at the Aransas Pass Progress as sales representative.

The Galveston County Daily News was honored by the Associated Press Managing Editors nationally for its coverage of the State Power Program, a partnership between Reliant Energy and the Texas General Land Office. APME gave the paper a First Amendment award for the story in the small newspaper category.

Lezli Gandy, a recent graduate of Texas Tech, is the Plainview Daily Herald’s new special projects writer. At Tech, she was a member of Public Relations Student Society of America and graduated in August with a degree in public relations.

Granite Publications composing has a new face. The crew welcomed Lorraine Stahursky.

Patricia Gardner is the newest addition to the Hereford Brand staff. She has contributed as agricultural writer for more than a year but now will be a full-time lifestyles editor, replacing Cassie Swan who left to join Deaf Smith County Crisis Center.

Sue Hawthorne left The (Anahuac) Progress as general manager to accept a position with Anahuac school district. She had been with the newspaper for 15 years.

Timothy M. Kelly is the new president of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, following the resignation of its former president, Randy Sanders. Kelly has served as vice president of the foundation for the past year. Kelly has been working as editor of The Beaumont Enterprise since October 1996.

Scott Moon has been named classified advertising director for Houston Community Newspapers. Moon brings more than 15 years of experience in newspaper advertising sales and sales management. Moon joined HCN six months ago as a major accounts sales executive after an eight-year career at the Austin American-Statesman. He previously served as a retail advertising manager in the Dallas area and in Abilene.

Kurt Mogonye joined San Patricio Publishing as editor. He most recently served as editor of the Aransas Pass Progress and Ingleside Index.

Dan Moore, former publisher of Lindale News & Times, was named general manager of four newspapers owned by Bluebonnet Publishing, Kilgore News Herald, Tri County Leader, Bullard Banner and Chandler and Brownsboro Statesman.

Diane Murray, longtime reporter and photographer has joined the staff at the Cedar Creek Pilot. Murray has been reporting in the lake area for 15 years.

B.J. Pollock, Fort Bend Herald staff writer, was a winner in the American Cancer Society’s 25th annual Texas Media Awards program for excellence in cancer journalism. Pollock’s article, “The Miracle Child,” won first place in the small market daily newspaper feature/human interest category.

The Terrell Tribune editorial staff was honored in the small market daily series for its yearlong “Battling Cancer” series on cancer and local survivors.

Other newspaper winners were Big Market News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram; Big Market Feature/Human Interest, Austin American-Statesman; Small Market Daily News, Valley Freedom Newspapers; and Weekly Feature/Human Interest, The Canadian Record.

Keri Leigh Pritchard and David Earl Stie Willerton were married June 14, in the Wise County Courthouse. The bride is an editorial graphic artist and reporter for the Wise County Messenger. The groom is a manager at Sprouts Farmers Market.

Willis Webb retired this month as publisher of The Jasper Newsboy and planned to move to Central Texas. Webb was president of Texas Press Association in 2003-04. He became publisher of the Newsboy in May 1991 and worked more than 50 years at newspapers and publishing firms around the state.

Jeffrey T. Reedy is the new publisher in Jasper.

Jack Stein was named publisher at the Lindale News & Times to replace Dan Moore. Stein was named general manager Oct. 1 after serving as editor for more than a year. He has more than 31 years experience in newspapers, including owning the Wood County Democrat.

Fielder Williams Strain joined the Hill Country News in Cedar Park as the new photographer/graphics designer. Strain was a freelance photographer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch for 18 months.

Misty Sweet joined the Wimberley View as a staff writer and photographer. Her most recent job was working for a daily in Sidney, Neb.

The Uvalde Leader-News has added new personnel in the advertising and editorial departments — Hope Quintanilla and Michael Robinson as account executives and Andrea Gonzalez as staff writer.

Quintanilla worked 20 years for the 38th Judicial District Adult and Juvenile Probation Department.

Robinson brings 16 years of advertising sales experience, including five years at The Belton Journal.

Gonzalez worked as a writer for IntelligentUpdate.com.

Candace Velvin, publisher of The Cameron Herald and Thorndale Champion, married Bruce S. Vay of Edmonton, Alberta, in a civil ceremony Nov. 20 on the grounds of the Milam County Courthouse in Cameron.
