Eugene Ralph Anderson

Eugene Ralph Anderson, 70, died Feb. 13, 2008, at his residence. He was a professional photographer, newspaper editor at The Childress Index and a broadcast engineer.


Ed Cler

Funeral services for Ed Cler, were held Feb. 12, 2008.

His first column “From My Side of the Fence” was published in the Muenster Enterprise on Feb. 7, 1992, and he continued as a columnist for many years.


Ann Faragher

Ann Faragher, 87, died Feb. 26, 2008, in a Greenville nursing home.

She was editor of the Greenville Herald-Banner from 1977 until retiring in 1986. She first joined the staff in October 1966 as a courthouse reporter after having served for several years as managing editor and courthouse reporter for a tri-weekly publication in Port Lavaca. She was a member of the Harte-Hanks Newspapers Advisory Board.


Carl Freund

Carl Freund, 82, died Feb. 25, 2008, of a heart attack while awaiting transportation to Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano for preparations for heart surgery the next day.

His 20 years as a reporter at The Dallas Morning News included acting as a pallbearer for Lee Harvey Oswald.

He was a war correspondent with the Army’s 104th Infantry Timberwolf Division during World War II and later joined the Waco News-Tribune. He also worked for the Fort Worth Press before joining The Morning News in 1963.


James Jim Maler

James “Jim” Maler, 73, died Feb. 22, 2008, in his Bellville home.

He was a long-time employee of The Bellville Times and was named news editor and advertising manager in 1965. He bought into ownership of the paper in 1970 and served as editor and publisher until April 1, 1996, when he became the business manager. He retired June 2007.

He also worked for the Pampa Daily Spokesman for 28 months and at the Del Rio News-Herald as sports editor for two years.


Terrence Terry Reilley

Terrence “Terry” Reilley, 48, died Feb. 20, 2008, after a brief illness.

He was as a pressman for both The Eagle in Bryan College Station and Texas A&M University before moving to Austin. He also worked in the pressroom at The Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin.
