We have to sympathize with businesses and public institutions attempting to function in the age of social media.

A great example of what they face played out Tuesday and Wednesday as Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston was attempting to deal with a Facebook post by a woman claiming her daughters contracted staph or strep infections there.

The post was long on assertion, including that doctors who treated her children at the University of Texas Medical Branch had confirmed that “they have had case after case coming in from Schlitterbahn, some whole families and a lot of tourists.”

This was news to both the medical branch and the county health department, both of which told our reporter there had been no such uptick in infection cases.
