Leadership change announced at Moore County News Press

DUMAS – Moore County News-Press publisher Wanda Brooks has been named publisher emeritus of the publication, with former managing editor Michael Wright assuming the role of publisher.
Wright has 21 years of industry experience, including 13 years with the News-Press.
Brooks began her 23-year career with the News-Press as office manager in 1994. She served in that capacity until being promoted to publisher of the News-Press in February of 2008.
“My husband, Gary, retired four years ago,” Brooks said. “We have a bucket list of places we would like to visit and things we would like to do.”
Brooks said she is confident the News-Press will continue its tradition of excellence under Wright’s leadership.
Wright came to Dumas in November 2004 as sports editor. In 2006 he was named managing editor by former publisher Larry Reynolds.
Prior to his arrival in Dumas, Wright served in various capacities at newspapers in both the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.
He began his newspaper career in May of 1996 as sports editor of the Borger News-Herald. He also served as editor and publisher of that publication, as well as publisher of the Guymon Daily Herald in Guymon, Oklahoma.
“I have spent almost half of my life working for community newspapers,” Michael said. “I guess you could say I’ve got ink in my veins.”
He added that he looks forward to putting to work the knowledge he has gained while working with Brooks. He said some new projects and features are in store for 2018.
