POSITION SUMMARY:
The Denton Record-Chronicle is seeking a full-time Content Producer to join our newsroom in Denton. The Content Producer should be a passionate, entrepreneurial, innovative person to help bring the Denton Record-Chronicle’s focus on utility-driven content and audience growth and engagement to life.

This is an entry-level position that welcomes creativity and opportunities for growth and professional development. This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime and reports to the Director of Content.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The ideal content producer:

Will handle content planning and creation for the Denton Record-Chronicle's Denton U section and email newsletter, including building and sending weekly newsletters.
Is connected to the world outside our newsroom. The ideal candidate must be capable of following social media, watching trends and using community involvement in determining what coverage makes the most sense for readers, across all of the Denton Record-Chronicle's sections.
Work closely on production of the Denton County magazine with the director of content to assure production timelines and content deadlines are met.
Is passionate about engagement. The right content producer will be eager to better understand target audiences and develop innovative content plans to reach them.
Develop and implement audience and engagement strategies to build Denton County magazine and Denton U audiences throughout Denton County.
Will identify content from other local news sources that are relevant to readers and aggregate them online in a more understanding, utility-driven way.
Will understand and appreciate AP Style and traditional newswriting standards.
Other duties as assigned

C&S Media Publications is looking for a High School Sports Writer/Editor. 

This position plans, coordinates and executes coverage of high school sports in eastern Collin County, Texas, one of the fastest growing areas in the country. This position will report and write a variety of content for print/digital platforms, providing high school sports coverage on a local level that willgrow audience and subscribers.

This position requires writing on in-depth coverage and features as well as digital updates. In addition to writing duties, responsibilities include coordinatingfreelance writers and photographers who help with weekly high school football coverage. 

Principal duties and responsibilities: 

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for high school sports coverage, to include in-depth reporting, features and game coverage. 

• Reporting, writing and videography of stories important to readers, presented in a comprehensive and understandable manner. 

• Coordinate a team of freelance writers and photographers to provide a wide variety of coverage of all sports. 

• Use print and digital assets to grow audience. 

• Works in concert with a part-time staff or interns, who gather standings, schedules and statistics. 

• Assists with coverage on other sports beats as needed.

Skills & abilities:

• Experience in reporting and writing, including on deadline. 

• Experience in sports photography and video for digital assets.. 

• Experience in handling many tasks associated with covering seven high schools in multiple sports during a season. 

• Experience working in a print and digital scenario, consistently working assignments that benefit multiple platforms. 

• Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate a comprehensive coverage plan, incorporating a team of contract writers. 

• Must be a self-starter, able to take initiative and handle many tasks at once. 

• Must be able to work independently, using all available resources, internally and externally. 

• Requires strict attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Education and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent and experience preferred. 

• Two-plus years experience in a print/digital sports news environment preferred.

• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud in a Mac-based office.

• Above average photography skills.

C&S Media operates five award-winning weekly newspapers, two monthly magazines, six websites and 12 social media platforms in Collin County, Texas which influence over 320,000 residents. This position will office at 110 N. Ballard Ave. in Wylie, TX and travel to the other communities as needed for meetings and events.
