Special Section - Daily
1st - Galveston Daily News. Super effort. Cover photos and color are excellent. Strong editorial support. Most entries this year were on the same topic. Yours was one of the best.
2nd - Brazosport Facts, Clute. Great variation on an old theme. Good copy, quality pictures and solid ad layout skills make this an award winner.
3rd - Brownwood Bulletin. Many, many, many such entries this year but outstanding color and covers helped this one stand out.
4th - Kerrville Daily Times. Very nice covers for each section. Lots of clean open space. Good photos and local copy.
Weeklies over 3,000
lst - N. San Antonio Times. Excellent work. Good color pages. Superior ad design.
2nd - Duncanville Today. Excellent cover page. Good work throughout.
3rd – Winnsboro News. Interesting topic. Good support throughout paper for special section. Could have used some more ads in center section.
4th - Daingerfield Bee. Nice handling of historical event. (Very hard decision between. third and fourth).
Semiweeklies
1st - Lamesa Press Reporter. Very good informative articles instead of “filler” — like the use of local ‘people’ in ads (pictures). Very well done! Hope this is a yearly issue!
2nd - Cedar Creek Pilot, Gun Barrel City. Terrific photos.
3rd - Wharton Journal-Spectator. Great idea. Nice size too.
4th - Littlefield Leader-News. Wonderful issue. Excellent photos. Ads are well done. (I like the “WWII Note” on them.)
Weeklies under 3,000.
lst - Ozona Stockman. You wouldn’t believe how close first and second were. Not to diminish your victory, but your runner up almost got it with one of their stories and their front page. However, something about your editorial content drew me back.
2nd - Castro County News, Dimmitt. It was a difficult decision which would place first in this division. Your gunfight story almost did it.
3rd - Refugio County Advantage Press, Refugio. A very nice local tour. Great use of color and variety of articles.
4th - Lake Travis View, Austin. Strong ads and historical pieces. Interesting piece of work.
