Nine community newspapers claimed top honors in the 2012 Texas Better Newspaper Contest. The Galveston County Daily News, Athens Daily Review, The Williamson County Sun, Round Rock Leader, The River Cities Sunday Tribune, Hays Free Press, Iowa Park Leader, The Albany News and Alvarado Star took home a Sweepstakes award. The contest includes one Sweepstakes award for each of the circulation divisions, except Division 1. Sweepstakes awards are earned by point accumulation in contest categories. You can find judges’ comments and samples of winning work in Winners’ Circle. Go to http://texaspress.com and click on the Winners’ Circle tab to view contest results. And don’t forget to download your award winner’s logo to publish in your newspaper.

The contest awards were presented June 23 at the inaugural TPA Newspaper Executives’ Retreat in San Antonio. More than 180 people attended the retreat.
