TCU receives a visiting business journalism professorship from the Reynolds Foundation

FORT WORTH — Texas Christian University is one of four schools, including Colorado State University, Grambling State University and the University of South Carolina, to receive a visiting business journalism professor next spring under a $1.67 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

“These four schools will form the nucleus of a much larger group of institutions that will be selected annually over the next five years,” Steve Anderson, president of the Reynolds Foundation, said in an announcement.

“The program’s goal is to select institutions that will commit long term to the teaching of principles and skills necessary to train business journalists in what we believe is an increasingly important field of journalism.”

The program is administered through the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and is modeled on successful programs at Washington and Lee University and the Cronkite School.

Besides teaching courses in business journalism, visiting professors will help establish partnerships with local business media and contribute to BusinessJournalism.org and Reynolds Center Webinars, which provide resources and training enabling professional business journalists to excel at their craft.

Waller County News Citizen lives on

HEMPSTEAD — The Waller County News Citizen will remain the longest, continuously published newspaper in Waller County, thanks to a local resident. The paper did not close its doors, as reported in the July issue of the Texas Press Messenger.

In fact, the News Citizen never missed an issue. The paper, which was slated to publish its last issue on July 28, was purchased by a local resident, Joe M. Bennatte of Bennatte & Associates Investment Counselors Inc., during the week the July Messenger went to press.

Bennatte now serves as president and publisher. Joe R. Figueroa is general manager and editor.

The three-page form is called P.S. Form 3526 Statement of Ownership, Management and Circulation, and can be downloaded at http://about.usps.com/forms/ps3526.pdf.
