Terry Slavens joined Eastland County Newspapers as sports editor.
Amy Adams joined the Castro County News as a page designer and reporter. Adams is a student at West Texas A&M University. She is majoring in English education and language and aspires to be a high school yearbook and English teacher. Adams has an associate’s degree from Amarillo College, where she took journalism classes, worked on the student newspaper and won several awards for her photography.
Will Anderson, columnist for the State Line Tribune, has been named editor of the paper, effective Sept. 1. He also teaches college-level history classes and is pursuing his master’s degree. Anderson’s first published work in the Tribune was a letter to Santa Claus in the Christmas issue of 1960.
Shannon Nichols joined The Liberty County Vindicator. She will be managing accounting and classified advertising. Nichols is a resident of Dayton. She brings 16 years of experience in accounting to the paper. Linda Petterson joined The Liberty County Vindicator. She will be managing retail advertising. Petterson was born and raised in Liberty and now lives in Dayton with her family.
Carol Skewes, managing editor of The Liberty County Vindicator, was named publisher of the paper. Skewes has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston. She also has several years of newspaper experience. Skewes replaced Dan Moore, who resigned to pursue other interests.
Allyson Mitchell, the newest member of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune staff, made the Texarkana College Dean’s List last semester. Mitchell graduated from Avery High School in 2009.
Jacob Tucker, reporter for the Levelland & Hockley County News-Press, was promoted to sports editor. Tucker started as an intern at the News-Press. After graduating from Texas Tech University last year with a degree in journalism, he was hired as a staff reporter. Tucker succeeds Mitch Word, who resigned due to health complications.
Scott Flowers joined The Light and Champion. Flowers previously worked as a freelance photographer and writer in Shelby County. Much of his work has been featured in local newspapers.
Sandi Saulsbury joined The Kirbyville Banner as managing editor. Saulsbury has a diverse background. She ran her own street ministry in the Beaumont area for seven years and assisted many people in need through counseling, job training, housing assistance and rehabilitation placement. She currently preaches in the Elevate Children’s Ministry at the Harvest Church in Jasper. She is also a third-year psychology student, minoring in Christian studies, at Grand Canyon University.
Elizabeth Sehon joined the Weatherford Democrat as a reporter. Sehon was born in Waco but grew up in Fort Worth. She recently moved back to the area from Kentucky, where she reported for the Georgetown News-Graphic. Sehon is a graduate of the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University.
Willis Webb, a 50-year veteran of the newspaper industry, was named a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by Sam Houston State University. Webb, a former editor and publisher, has covered nine Texas newspapers. He spent the last 15 years of his career in Jasper working for the Hearst Corporation. Webb currently writes a weekly column carried in 21 Texas community newspapers.
Richard Brack, a veteran newspaper man, was named editor of the Longview News-Journal. Brack has served as The Associated Press bureau chief in Trenton, N.J., assistant bureau chief for AP in Chicago and in a variety of news leadership positions with the Lawrence, Kan. Journal-World and the Des Moines Register in Iowa. Most recently, Brack served as executive managing editor for Nielsen Business media based in New York City, a business-to-business publisher covering a variety of industries. At Nielsen he shared responsibility for 30 magazines, about 100 websites and other media events including trade shows and conferences.
