2 weeklies close doors

Weekly newspapers in Follett and Dallas ceased publication recently.

The 105-year-old Oak Cliff Tribune published its last edition Feb. 5. Publisher Mark Housewright told The Dallas Morning News “There is no more difficult decision than the closing of a business.”

The Tribune reported 2,629 circulation in October.

In Follett, The Golden Spread published its last edition March 5. Publisher Terri Martin said The Booker News would honor current subscriptions to the Spread and readers would receive the Booker weekly until renewal. The Golden Spread reported only 315 circulation in October.

Golden 50 nominees due May 1

The deadline to nominate yourself or someone else for the 2009 Golden 50 Awards is May 1. Award recipients will be honored June 19.
