The areas of discussion included new postmaster training, overnight drops, electronic filing of postage statements and USPS requirements for complying with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) financial legislation.
Although the panel represented only one of the four postal districts serving Texas, member concerns from other districts will be forwarded and shared with the appropriate district. Additional feedback from panel members is expected going forward.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White visits with Chris Barbee (left), publisher of the El Campo Leader-News, and Larry Jackson, editor and publisher of the Fayette County Record. White was invited to speak at TPA’s 131st Annual Summer Convention in San Antonio, where he promised transparency and accessibility if elected in November.
During his speech, White told the group of journalists, “A free investigative press ought to be viewed as an ally to getting to the heart of the matter and the truth."
Gov. Rick Perry was also invited to speak at the convention, but declined due to a scheduling conflict.

Keck provided magical entertainment on Saturday, June 19, at the Texas Newspaper Foundation Fundraiser Dinner. Audience participants helped him perform several magic tricks.
The dinner was sponsored by Jackson Walker L.L.P. Money from Texas Newspaper Foundation fundraisers supports training and educational opportunities for journalists at community newspapers across the state.

Members enjoyed a special dinner on Friday, June 18, at the 750-foot-tall Tower of the Americas, overlooking the historic Alamo City. Sampson and the Schmids were first-timers at the convention. The number of members attending their first TPA convention was 26.
