Gilbert Barrera

Gilbert Barrera, 75, died April 5, 2007, of complications from diabetes.

In 1948, Barrera joined the art department of the San Antonio Light. He later became a photojournalist and his work was published in Life Magazine, the Saturday Evening Post, Southern Living, La Prensa and the San Antonio Express-News.

Linda Fradkin

Linda Fradkin, 61, died April 16, 2007. She had been undergoing treatment for leukemia at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She was the food columnist for The Galveston County Daily News. She began submitting weekly food columns about 20 years ago.

James Ezra Norris

James “Jim” Ezra Norris, 70, of Tuscon, Ariz., died April 7, 2007, in Tuscon’s VA Hospital.

He was editor for the El Paso Times and worked for the Hobbs (N.M.) News Sun, Odessa American, and The Seminole Sentinel. He also was a D.J. in Seminole and several radio stations throughout Texas and Arizona.

Thomas Overton

Thomas Gordon Overton, died April 19, 2007, after losing a fight with renal cancer that had metastasized to the lungs, ribs and spine.

He worked for two years for the Times Record News in Wichita Falls, and moved to The Houston Post in June 1978.

Howard Wells Rosser

Howard Wells Rosser, 79, died April 5, 2007, of a massive heart attack.

He was former part owner and managing editor of The Winnsboro News.

Dorothy Mae Stathis

Dorothy Mae Martignoni Stathis, 82, died March 26, 2007, after a long battle with cancer.

Stathis was hired in the early 1940s by the Victoria Advocate as one of the first female employees. She worked in accounting and was assistant to then owner Morris Roberts. She retired in 1990.
