In 2011 Local Media Association (formerly Suburban Newspapers of America), Inland Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA) joined forces to produce one large mega conference for its members. The conference lived up to its name with nearly 500 attendees descending on the Vinoy in St. Petersburg, Fla., for the three-day event.
“The response to this conference from newspaper executives and the companies that supply goods and services to the newspaper industry has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Edward VanHorn, executive director of SNPA. “The collaboration of these three associations has created a new and vibrant educational program for the industry and a robust networking environment for the members of all three groups.”
Based on the success of last year’s conference, the three associations have once again teamed up to bring you “Transformation Through Innovation,” which will take place Feb. 27-29 in San Antonio. A pre-conference executive-level summit on daily deals has been added – at no additional cost on Sunday, Feb. 26th.
"We are pleased to once again partner with Inland and SNPA to produce the industry's must-attend event for local media executives," said Nancy Lane, president of LMA. "This year's program is even stronger with a focus on new revenue streams and new business models all supported by successful case studies and best practices. As a bonus, the trade show will feature over 40 of the industry's premier vendors that will showcase new and proven revenue producing tools and services."

The U.S. Postal Service published a proposed rule in the Federal Register on July 19 to eliminate the manual card option for electronic address sequencing service in January 2011. This service has been one of the options available to obtain address sequencing, which is required to claim enhanced carrier route rates. The agency is stating that only a limited number of mailers have been using this option and a more efficient electronic process is available at the same cost. Comments relating to this change must be submitted by Aug. 18.
Information relating to this proposed rule is available at http://pe.usps.com/FederalRegisterNotices.asp.
Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) 507.8, Electronic Address Sequencing (EAS) Service, will be revised. |

Recently, American Consolidated Media, home to more than 80 print and digital publications in nine states, launched the second class of journalists involved in its Digital Reporter Project.
ACM is headquartered in Irving, Texas. The Digital Reporter Project puts an iPad2 workstation in the hands of the reporters involved as a tool to allow them to provide news updates and multimedia coverage on their newspapers' websites from the field.
In the second phase of the project, four journalists in Texas are featured. Brad Keith, sports editor of the Stephenville Empire-Tribune; Pete Garcia, sports editor of the Alice Echo-News Journal; Ofelia Hunter, managing editor of the Alice Echo-News Journal; and Pedro Perez IV, reporter with the Valley Town Crier in McAllen, are four of the 11 journalists involved in the Digital Reporter Project 2.0 class.
