Division 2
Dailies 7,000 or More

1. The Galveston County Daily News: Each page features a unique design/graphic – no retread style.

2. The Lufkin Daily News: Good use of art and bold headlines.

3. Midland Reporter-Telegram: Gutsy move with that cartoon. Good use of design elements, especially in sports.

4. The Kerrville Daily Times: A lot of information is offered in those graphics.

Division 3
Dailies 7,000 or Less

1. Brownwood Bulletin: Good inclusion of varied design elements.

2. Mineral Wells Index: Interesting use of typography.

3. Taylor Daily Press: Strong photography.

4. Waxahachie Daily Light: Bold graphics/type.

 

Division 4
Semiweeklies 4,001 or More

1. The Williamson County Sun, Georgetown: Clean, simple and easy to read.

2. Wise County Messenger, Decatur: Bold design.

3. Uvalde Leader-News: Progressive front.

4. The Highlander, Marble Falls: Photo content lacking.


Division 5
Semiweeklies 4,000 or Less

1. Kilgore News Herald: Graphics/design features used well – breaks up page.

2. Round Rock Leader: Clean design. Good use of graphics.

3. Copperas Cove Leader-Press: Good graphics.

4. The Bowie News: Interesting design.

 

Division 6
Large Weeklies

1. The River Cities Sunday Tribune, Marble Falls: Clean, varied design. Great photos.

2. Park Cities People, Dallas: Beautiful front.

3. The Wylie News: Good use of art/photos.

4. Wilson County News, Floresville: Interesting use of photos on front.

 

Division 7
Medium-Large Weeklies

1. Westlake Picayune, Austin: Really interesting graphics with sports.

2. Hays Free Press, Kyle: Well-organized content.

3. The Clifton Record: Good use of graphics to break up page.

4. Mission Progress Times: Well-designed images.


Division 8
Medium Weeklies

1. Iowa Park Leader: Some photos bleed into cutlines.

2. Alpine Avalanche: Really good color.

3. The Anahuac Progress: Ruthlessly clean page.

4. Refugio County Press: Easy to read. Varied use of fonts.

 

Division 9
Small-Medium Weeklies

1. The Sachse News: Well organized and easy to read through.

2. The Albany News: Good use of graphics.

3. The Jasper Newsboy: Good use of text/typography/design elements.

4. Mart Messenger: Good use of graphics.


Division 10
Small Weeklies

1. Murphy Monitor: Creative design and good use of art.

2. Alvarado Star: Supplemental graphics used pretty well.

3. Red Oak Record: Well shot/printed photos.

4. The Liberty Hill Independent: Clean, thoughtful layout.
