Golden 50 — 2016

2016 Golden 50 Award recipient was Glenn Rea. The award was presented June 18, 2016 during the TPA Summer Leadership Retreat held at La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery

After 29 years as publisher of the Cuero Record and Yorktown News-View – and more than 50 years in the newspaper business – Glenn Rea reduced his activities at the two newspapers in 2017 to become publisher emeritus.
Growing up in Andrews, his first newspaper job was with the Andrews County News. From there his newspaper roles included editor and advertising director for Hood County News in Granbury and publisher of Azle News Advertiser and Springtown Epigraph.
In 1987 Rea became publisher of The Cuero Record. In 1995 Yorktown News-View became part of that newspaper family. Both newspapers are now a part of Moser Community Media, which owns about 30 newspapers in Texas.
In the early years of his career, Rea served on the boards of West Texas Press Association and North and East Texas Press Associations. He served as president of Gulf Coast Press Association in 2001 and president of South Texas Press Association in 2009.
In 2015 he was named the 138th president of Texas Press Association. He is currently serving as chairman of the TPA board of directors.
Glenn and his wife, Carrie, have been married 20 years. Together they have four children, 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Rea has served as president of several civic organizations in the communities where he has managed newspapers.
