2009 Directory Photo Contest deadline Oct. 9, 2008

The contest is open to all TPA members. Entries must have been taken by a regular staff member or employee of the newspaper/organization and can include published and/or non-published photographs. Multiple entries by one photographer may be submitted. Please clearly identify the photographer, the affiliate newspaper or organization and the subject.

To enter, send an original color photograph of a landscape, event or any scene that depicts Texas. Digital files should be a minimum 170 resolution, letter size (8 1/2" x 11") and saved as high quality jpeg or eps files. Send via e-mail or mail on CD-Rom.

One winner will be chosen by the TPA staff and the winning photograph will be printed on the 2008 Texas Newspaper Directory with credit given inside to the photographer. All print entries will be returned.

2008
Directory Photo Contest

Kirby Campbell of the Wellington Leader won the 2008 contest.

His photo of a windmill at sunset will appear on the 2008 Texas Newspaper Directory.

• Darwin Weigel of the Odessa American won the first year with a photo of a West Texas Longhorn drive
• 2000 William Miskiewicz of the Northwest Tarrant County Times in Fort Worth won with a patriotic cowboy riding his horse.
Richard Nira of The Huntsville Item won in 2001 for a sunset shot of the 150th anniversary monument outside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
• Vince Leibowitz of the Canton Herald's Capitol dome shot won in 2002.
• Mark Engebretson of the Lake Country Sun won in 2003 for a Texas-shaped lake photo of Possum Kingdom Lake.
• 2004 cover with Nuel Cates of the Daily Commercial Record in Dallas as the winner
. Cates' photo of two seagulls dancing on a Galveston beach
• Macy Chionsini of Granite Publications won in 2006 with a Texas flag-painted barn in a field of green.
• Matt Kelton of The Bowie News won in 2007 with a bluebonnet.

The 2005 directory cover celebrated the 125th anniversary of Texas Press Association and reprinted previous covers dating to 1983.

The contest is open only to TPA members. Photographs can be on any subject matter relating to Texas or to Texans.
