1st. The Facts, Clute, "Brookside Village vs. Chem Central" — Absolutely outstanding. This coverage, this support, including an editorial, deserves national recognition. This reporting was fair, fact-based, but the extensive coverage, the follow-up, the quotes from concerned residents all combined into a de-facto voice of the people. Outstanding example of newspaper standing for the "little guy" versus rich corporations. Congratulations to your staff, to the mayor and residents of Brookside Village. You should send this to Bill Moyers. The best thing I read all day as a judge.

2nd. Victoria Advocate, "Adult Literacy program" — This is really impressive. A wonderful use of your resources, your voice. A great cause and a great way to raise money for it. Inspiring. Congrats on your leadership, as others want to emulate you. I’m sure your entire motive isn’t good PR. I hope more papers follow your lead.

3rd. The Galveston County News, "Homeless" — Impressive. Seems your staff learned and grew as you went along. Keep up the pressure. Especially impressive is how you put follow-up stories as the lead story. These people are voice-less, you in essence are their voices. Very commendable. Courageous. I would have given you first, but two others were even more impressive in terms of helping people.

4th. New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, "Bond election" — Although I consider election coverage to be part of your job, part of news coverage, I am impressed that you assembled a candidate forum. Excellent public service.
