Charles A. Schulz, 109th president, was a second-generation newspaperman who joined family-owned Taylor Newspapers Inc., as secretary-treasurer in 1974. He moved to Taylor in 1977 to assume full-time duties at the Daily Press and other Central Texas weekly newspapers published by the company. Schulz served as president and publisher.

Prior to moving to Taylor he was an associate with the investment firm of Smith, Barney and Co., in Dallas, for 11 years.

Born in Temple in 1941, Schulz grew up in a newspaper family. His father, Charles Afton Schulz, joined the Temple Daily Telegram in 1929 and retired in 1973 as general manager and associate publisher. The elder Schulz served as president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association in 1952 and Charles Schulz was vice president of Texas Daily Newspaper Association in 1990 at the time of his death.

He married Margaret Keith Conwill in 1965 and had a son and a daughter.

He received his BBA from the University of Texas in 1963, followed by graduate work in finance.
