Harry F. Schwenker, 52nd president, was born April 20, 1885, at Burlington, Iowa. He learned the printing trade in a job-printing establishment of his hometown and in 1906 came to Texas.

His first newspaper work in Texas was on the Daily Paragon at Amarillo, the first daily printed in that city. In 1907 he acquired a half-interest in the Tolar Standard, but sold in 1909 and purchased the Brady Enterprise.

In 1910 the Enterprise consolidated with the Brady Standard, owned by John E. Cooke. Cooke & Schwenker purchased the subscription list of the McCullough County Star and in 1911 Schwenker purchased Cooke’s interest in the Brady Standard.

Schwenker joined Texas Press Association in 1913 and was elected vice president at Texarkana in 1928. He married Loudie M. Bushey on May 20, 1916. They had five children.
