17 members of Congress set to testify Tuesday before the International Trade Commission

Seventeen members of Congress, including Bill Flores of Texas' 17th District, are scheduled to testify before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) Tuesday to defend 600,000 American workers in the newspaper, retail, printing and publishing industries, along with the millions of Americans who read local newspapers.
The congressmen will urge ITC members to oppose permanent tariffs on newsprint imported from Canada by showing evidence that the preliminary tariffs imposed earlier this year are already harming the U.S.printing and publishing industries. The U.S. Commerce Department imposed tariffs in response to claims by North Pacific Paper Company, a single paper mill operating in the pacific northwest.
Congressional delegations from Florida, Missouri, Illinois and New Mexico have written letters to the U.S. Government to object to the trade case. In addition, letters signed by over 80 elected officials, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Congressional members such as Susan Collins, Angus King, Johnny Isakson, Ralph Norman, Liz Cheney, Kristi Noem, Brian Higgins among many others have also been sent.
